Just finished my botanical piece titled "Pacific Trillium" - 9"x12" watercolor on Arches 140lb cold press.
I went for a walk through the woods near my home on a rainy spring day and I could see dark clouds approaching the area, I knew I was in for another downpour. I took several photographs of the rain-soaked trilliums that lined part of the path, the petals were so wet they had become translucent. The lighting was perfect, until it started to rain! Luckily I took my shots before my camera got too wet. I loved painting the detailed raindrops on the petals and leaves, I may look to do some additional rainy botanical pieces in the near future. Maybe Lily of the Valley? I've embarked on a Northwest forest series and I am planning on completing at least two more forest compositions to compliment my Northwest Nocturne and Northwest Sunrise. Northwest Sunrise proved challenging because I wanted to enrich the transition from warm to cool light but I was constantly lifting color off and added it back on, as it was difficult to strike a good balance. I am pleased with the end result and I am excited to begin a new composition! Prints are now available on my Etsy site: www.etsy.com/listing/261251143/fine-art-print-northwest-sunrise www.jacquelinetribble.etsy.com Come one, come all to the kickoff of the Kirkland Art Walk summer season! This Friday, 4/8, downtown Kirkland.
It will be my Kirkland art walk debut, I'm really looking forward to meeting some fellow local artists and art lovers. I will be showcasing some of my latest watercolor landscapes and working on a new piece during the duration of the event. My work will be on display at the Seattle Thread Company, a local clothing store that offers a curated collection of casual and business-casual men’s clothing. Seattle Thread Company 9 Lake Street Kirkland, WA 98033 (425) 202-7732 A full map of the art walk can be found here: http://kirklandartwalk.com/home/map/ Come support local artists and businesses this Friday, bring your friends and family! A few months ago I found out one my favorite contemporary watercolor artists, Alvaro Castagnet, was going to do a demonstration at Daniel Smith in Seattle, so of course I had to go! Saturday was the day of the demo and I was even more impressed than I knew I would be.
The artist is famous for his passionate and vibrant paintings, full of mood and drama. He did a quick reproduction of one of his en plein air compositions of Paris, it was hard to believe the work he could put together in less than two hours! With only a quick free-hand sketch and a limited palette of 12 colors, we all watched as the streets of Paris came alive on the half-sheet of watercolor paper. I learned a lot, I wish I had been able to go to the Monday demonstration as well. Thanks for the great demo Alvaro! I am pleased to announce that my northwest landscape and botanical works can now be purchased as matted and framed fine art prints and greeting cards at Millstream on Bainbridge Island: Millstream - Gifts from the Pacific Northwest www.millstreamseattle.com Address: 122 Winslow Way E, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110 Phone:(206) 842-4495 The shop is located in the vibrant village of Winslow, walking distance from the ferry terminal for the Seattle to Bainbridge crossing. I loved this shop the moment I first visited! It is full of beautiful artwork and gifts from some of the Northwest's most talented artists and craftsmen and the owner, Roger, is very friendly and knowledgeable. The island is a great day trip from the Seattle area with plenty of hiking and biking trails, cafes, wineries, and of course, art galleries and museums! I finished my first painting of 2016! "Northwest Nocturne", 12x16 on Arches 140lb cold press
Hiking in the Pacific Northwest is always an unforgettable experience, this hike up in British Columbia was no exception. During a weekend trip to Vancouver I visited Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver, it was one of those mysterious days full of sea mist and ever-changing light. This park is one of my favorite in the world, offering unspoiled views of English Bay and the Vancouver skyline and hiking trails through the majestic old growth evergreen trees. This painting was a challenge - I wanted to show the depth and mood with rich cool tones but also stay true to the original color palette I observed. I enjoyed the challenges and rewards of this composition and have decided to do a few more watercolors focusing on Northwest woodland scenery. Works in progress will be posted soon! |
