There was a great turnout at the May Kirkland Art Walk, Hallmark Realty were great hosts! Already looking forward to June's art walk on 6/10, check back for updates!
Just finished my botanical piece titled "Pacific Trillium" - 9"x12" watercolor on Arches 140lb cold press.
I went for a walk through the woods near my home on a rainy spring day and I could see dark clouds approaching the area, I knew I was in for another downpour. I took several photographs of the rain-soaked trilliums that lined part of the path, the petals were so wet they had become translucent. The lighting was perfect, until it started to rain! Luckily I took my shots before my camera got too wet. I loved painting the detailed raindrops on the petals and leaves, I may look to do some additional rainy botanical pieces in the near future. Maybe Lily of the Valley? I've embarked on a Northwest forest series and I am planning on completing at least two more forest compositions to compliment my Northwest Nocturne and Northwest Sunrise. Northwest Sunrise proved challenging because I wanted to enrich the transition from warm to cool light but I was constantly lifting color off and added it back on, as it was difficult to strike a good balance. I am pleased with the end result and I am excited to begin a new composition!
