I finished my first painting of 2016! "Northwest Nocturne", 12x16 on Arches 140lb cold press
Hiking in the Pacific Northwest is always an unforgettable experience, this hike up in British Columbia was no exception. During a weekend trip to Vancouver I visited Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver, it was one of those mysterious days full of sea mist and ever-changing light. This park is one of my favorite in the world, offering unspoiled views of English Bay and the Vancouver skyline and hiking trails through the majestic old growth evergreen trees.
This painting was a challenge - I wanted to show the depth and mood with rich cool tones but also stay true to the original color palette I observed. I enjoyed the challenges and rewards of this composition and have decided to do a few more watercolors focusing on Northwest woodland scenery. Works in progress will be posted soon!
